My wife is getting too savvy, she must be hearing things in work. She said to me “Are all them drones you have DGI? Arn’t they the expensive drones”? So I said “What? all my drones come from China” She give a look only a knowing wife can give and left it at that. I know somewhere down the line I’m going to be paying for it, they pretend not to know until they need a new bathroom suite or the such like and then they’ll let you know how much you’ve spent on drones and accessories.
I was honest with the other half when I told her how much my bike cost. However, she doesn’t have a clue about the lighter and less wind resistant wheels, the carbon fibre pedals and cranks, the £250 saddle, the upgraded ultegra brakes, ultegra shifters, derailleurs etc. And then of course I needed to add more comfortable bar tape, new liners, bottle cages. And thats before we start on the carbon sole shoes I bought last year, along with the sealskinz socks and gloves. She could probably buy a new car with what I have spent on “upgrades”
When I bought my mini 2se & later the Neo I told my other half how much the drone cost, omitting to mention it was the flymore combo’s I bought.. Thought l’d got away with it though she does drop the odd hint that she’s aware of what I’d spent.
I tell The Squeeze up front what I’m buying and she mocks me when I’m low on spending money at the end of the month. We do not have a joint bank account; she has bad memories of her previous partner, a gambling addict, lying to her and occasionally cleaning the account out, so I’m happy to let her manage her own finances.
Of my two main hobbies, drones are much cheaper than model railways, especially as I’ve just started a new layout. Once you’ve bought your drone, the upkeep is keeping up with Care Refresh and the odd set of props per annum; I’ll blow that on sundries for the layout, modelling materials, replacement bits that have broken off, paints, knife blades &c in about 2 months. And some bastard is always bringing out a new loco that I need…
