Worried about loosing Mavic pro

Strange.
How can it know where you are?

I thought it went by the home point.

When I was testing, and walking, it pointed at me.

Now I have to test again too.

I might be completely wrong. It’s something I rarely use since it relies on the compass in your device to show you the position of aircraft relative to where you are facing. Phone compasses are pretty shit.

I’m sure the times I did use it It worked though.

Direction arrow on map is always spot on, so much easier for me just pointing that towards the green line.

I have to agree about the map being far better. At least with a tap it goes to full screen and dead easy to see/read/understand.

The radar only ever exists in a very small form in the corner of the screen.

Ditto,never had a problem,arrow is always correct…And i dont THINK,the ipad mini has gps,but i could be wrong…

Hi callum
Its not the radar i’m talking about, its the map in the bottom right hand corner.

I have been doing a lot of digging about on this and one thing i have noticed is that depending on what you use as a screen different things will be shown, for example on some phones a box will be in one corner and you can switch between map or radar, the i=pad mini 2 seems to be the same, however on a mini 4 both the radar (bottom left) and the map (bottom right) are on screen at the same time.

Just out of curiosity as you use a mini 4 do you have both radar and map at the same time ???

I’ll need to double check that for you tomorrow mate but I’m sure it’s both.

I’m wondering if it’s something to do with compass on iPad.

What way do you have it in controller, ie lightning port on left or right?

Have you tried to calibrate the ipad compass?

Is the ipad compass correct in other apps like maps or the compass app?

I’d run a test in flight with the iPad out of the controller grips few hundred mm away then put it into controller and see if it makes any difference.

A long shot but I’m wondering if the mavic controller is affecting the iPads compass in a certain orientation.

We know the mavic compass is correct otherwise it wouldnt take off or be able to RTH so it only leaves the iPad.

I usually fly with lightning port on left.

Hi
Just a note, there is no compass on my I-pad, do you think this could this be the problem ??

For the radar pointer - absolutely! It rotates its orientation by compass.

Weird, cant find it in apps ???

Can’t find what in apps?

compass

You don’t need a compass app for Go4 to work correctly - your iPad needs a compass sensor.

Does something like Google Maps rotate with the iPad orientation when in compass mode?

iPad mini 4 wifi definately has a magnetometer/ digital compass.

Ah when at home goggle maps rotate with I-pad not sure about when out, but cannot find just a compass, was under impression that compass was an extra app I had to put on

There will be compass apps - but not needed for Go4 to work.

If maps rotate with the iPad rotating - that will be the compass working.

If the compass is working at home, then it works anywhere. The compass doesn’t need wifi or anything to work. It’s a compass … it works the same anywhere in the world.

O.k, thank you for that, was hoping that I was getting somewhere :disappointed:

As you’ll see from people’s posts above, most seem to not bother with that radar screen in any case (although I’m sure some do) - so, if that’s the only issue when using your iPad, I’d not worry about it too much, and use the map for orientation.

I genuinely think the map provides better information, and can be tapped to go full screen to make it even more readable, too.
