Would you risk it?

Planning a flight and having done a bit of research I found that someone had their mini 2 shot out of the air at this location this week!

Would you give it a wide berth - or would you still fly knowing that you are within the law.

This is over or probably not even over English Heritage land, and certainly not TOAL from their site.

My personal point of view on that one, is that if I knew that there was or had been someone taking ‘pot-shots’ at drones in that area, then I would NOT fly there. It has nothing to do with who is right or who is wrong, it just boils down to my question to myself - do I want to add an additional possible risk on losing the drone. No, so I wouldn’t fly there. You can ‘try’ to educate idiots, but not at your loss.

As parametric’s response!

I’d avoid it with something like a DJI.

But I’d love to dive bomb them with my 100mph + fpv drone.

However I’m not usually one to shy away from confrontation so I guess it depends on the person.

Hi Howard,

Knowing what can be hit with a shotgun, I still wouldn’t risk it with an FPV.

The FPV would be a free Skeet launch for the shooter :grinning:

I ought to add that many people have flown drones there.

But I take the advice of those above.

Skeet can’t zigzag, up/down and left/right, and significantly change speed in an instant. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m not so sure, it’s pretty fast and believe me if my drone is being shot at then the police being called will be the least of the shooters worries.

Can I ask where this is?

I was going to ask that lol

It could be that there are illegal things happening and that’s why it was shot at, maybe rearing fox cubs to use on a hunt. I know that when sabs have infiltrated these places a good beating is the order of the day from the hunt keepers.
Or weed farm, personally I would stay well clear, obviously something is going on that they don’t want anyone to see.

How do you know this? From a fellow drone flyer? A media report? A police report?

If police haven’t been notified. Why not?

Where? Please share your research on this so everyone else can be aware.

It is against the law to shoot down a drone, not only would the culprit be facing criminal damage (drone) but a firearms offence as well. If the original offence was NOT reported to the police, then the person who’s drone was shot down should have reported the incident immediately to the police OR maybe they were doing something with their drone that they should not have been doing. I have no idea what the real circumstances were, but if the drone pilot was within the law, then they should get compensated and the offender, should be heavily fined and possibly lose the firearms license (if they even have one)

You should NEVER let such things prevent you from flying your drone (legally)

Not only would I report such things to the police, I would get footage of the area on video and get dozens of youtube channels to post it… as Rusty21 posted, it could be that something illegal is taking place wherever this is… but then shooting down a drone (as I already mentioned) is illegal

One thing that everyone here needs to know is WHERE? this took place… Nobody can avoid it, if they don’t know where it is and for sure the police won’t investigate it, if you can’t tell them where

A police drone unit scouting the area would be very interesting

Agreed if they are bold enough to shoot a drone what next. In fact if the police flew a drone in the exact same location and the same happened that would be very interesting. Report it

No replies to everyone’s obvious questions. This sounds like pub talk tripe to me.

I did see on Reddit that someone had their drone shot down over Nunney Castle grounds, near Frome. Is that the one?

How many people have asked where this location is, the person reporting this has a moral obligation to the group to let them know the location, so that others who may fly in that area are aware of the shooter, and can avoid it, not only that, if the person who has the shotgun shoots down a drone, ih may come looking for the operator next and who knows what he is capable of doing if he is in the wrong mindset. IF the person doesnt mention the location after so many questions being asked, then I in my mind think this could just be a set up / P*ss take. sorry but thats the way I see it.

Drone geek needs to reply to everyone’s question , Where…?

A shotgun would only be able to hit something within about 200mtrs or so, so just be mindful of that when flying over suspect areas.
