250g weight limit - how rigorously is this enforced?

Very new drone operator here… I did my research, passed the CAA Theory test, attained my Operator and Flyer IDs, and bought a DJI Mini 3 Pro which was advertised as weighing less than 250g. I noticed the batteries are labelled 249g.

So, when I actually weigh the drone it shows 251g: I know it’s only 2g over, but in the event of a problem/accident (I’m insured), could I be penalised for being overweight? I can’t imagine a police officer doing a roadside weigh-in!

I’ve not modified the drone in any way other than sticking on a dymo label with my Operator ID on it.

Thanks in advance.

Engineer here - every measurement is a margin of error.
I doubt your scales is accurate to +/- 1%
I doubt any roadside measurement is more accurate than +/- 1% (Never heard of on happening).

DJI need there drone to be under 250g, unmodified. I am sure there scales and repeatable manufacturing is more accurate that your home measurement of mass. Your drone is under 250g.

Thanks! I thought that might be the case but it’s good to know.

Have a look here as its been discussed many times

That’s a good idea, especially bearing in mind that for the sake of a few extra grams (especially the top-mounted strobe) there should be a significant increase in visibility. I’ll be watching out for any replies on this one.

There won’t be a reply

Pull up a chair and read the thread

Also use the search function top right :mag_right: as there are many other debates about weight and strobes

Remember the weight doesn’t stop you flying it just changes the class you are flying in

Buy a Mini 4 Pro battery for your 3 and then add a strobe, you’ll still be in the <=250g category.

Hmmm… interesting…
