Good advice. Get confident before going manual.

The good thing is thereā€™s always the stop button if you get in to trouble

I intend to take it easy for the first day or so. stop button at the readyā€¦Really looking forward to seeing the difference between the Mini pro 4 and the Avata 2. :+1:

Very different. Itā€™s like watching a plane fly & flying the plane

The DJI Avata 2 looks amazing from all the reviews Ive been seeing. Theyve fixed the main complaints of the original. Check out this review, you won`t believe what happens at the end!!

Iā€™ve had the loss of signal with the DJI FPV once, and 2 mins of bum clenching then it flew home, this is what the DJI ā€œFPVā€ style drones give you (and also the flying tripods), itā€™s great.

Though a good note to ALLā€¦ Make sure youā€™re recording on the goggles as well. OK if he had lost that in the sea, itā€™d be lost in the sea forever, but lose over ground, goggle DVR can really help!

Watched a lot of videos on this now, and not just the blatant KOLā€™s (Bardwells, and @Mads-Tech of course the ones I trust most), and it is just a great package. Bizarrely the one thing I like most is the fact the combo comes with a bag! How mad is that, that I like that. I know the non FPV DJI drones have come with bags for ages, but thatā€™s cool (like my Mini 2, loved that). Also theyā€™ve put the /USB SD card in a place you can access now (I hate getter the SD out the OG Avata).

As a more of a custom built FPVer, do I want one? Hell yes, will I buy one? Hmmm I use the V2ā€™s still (not got G2/Integra), if they make it work with O3 (Iā€™d expect that I think), or even better Vista/OG AUā€™s then maybe, just maybe!

It looks like an awesome all round product, and a great intro to FPV. Is the camera as good as a GoPro on a custom FPV? Nope, probably not. Is it more than good enough? Absolutely (the OG wasnā€™t bad, though dark dark on those O3ā€™s).

So for anyone wanting to get into FPV, yes get one! FPV is amazing. You can then learn manual eventually (well another Ā£129, is it? on top, not a bad price DJI, though Iā€™d have to add that onto the total cost if I ever were to get one). Can you then use it with ā€œotherā€ FPV (own drones, and wings), noā€¦ Not yet. An O4 will likely come, and hopefully at least O3 backwards (wonā€™t hold my breath). But if you dont have a controller or goggles, and want east to use FPV, itā€™s an amazing product

And man I hate the people who say ā€œThis is what the original Avata should have beenā€, or the ā€œDJI FPV should have beenā€. The iPhone 15 is what the OG iPhone should have been.

Any downsides? Be interesting to find out more about restrictions (I noticed in that last video max speed limited differently in EU/US), thatā€™d be annoying. What about distance and height (though wouldnā€™t affect me personally probably).

Well done DJI, from what Iā€™ve seen itā€™s a great complete package! Look forward to seeing/flying one

Afternoon folks, my name is Ian and Iā€™m an alcoholic, err ok wrong site.

Anyhoo moving on to more important things.

I thought I would share with you fine folks some findings and things Iv not even talked about on my own discord yet.

Im going to rely that I can trust you all not to leak this otherwise I promise you will wake 3am to find me standing over you holding the bagged remains of my Avata 2 in just my spider man pants.

Ok.

O4

Some very interesting changes to the RF behaviour with it being far more hop happy on the band. Iā€™m still investigating its overall behaviour compared to O3 however itā€™s not dramatically different.

Whats a massive change is the Remote part of the link as with the Avata 2 DJI in no longer communicating with the drone directly. The RC links to the goggles and RC is that passed along the goggles telemetry link to the drone. DJI is now using an off the shelf 2.4ghz chipset for this in both the goggles and the RCs. This overall does not change a great deal however it does mean you cannot fly the Avata 2 without goggles.

Avata 2

On the Drone I have had some flights in and overall itā€™s very much as you expect if you have flown the original Avata, battery life is increases massively to the point I got board after one and a half packs so unless you have some things you specifically intend to do the excitement wears off quick.

Iv only flown with the RC Motion at this point so I canā€™t comment on the RC yet that will be here later this week.

Camera wise itā€™s a little to early for me to say to much but Iā€™m largely itā€™s Action 4 performance.

Where I have concerns on the drone is self is its crash itā€™s crashability. If you seen the live itā€™s build very much like a Mavic and a shell swap on this is a major task. The duct is in two parts but itā€™s the whole main body and a simple swap is no go.

Goggles 3

This is the most interesting part of whatā€™s new tbh. From the live we got to see the new S2 chipset for the very first time. The giggles are work of engineering art internally however I do wonder the long term safety on these things as there is just so much RF going on. For instance on Ocusync the SDR actually has 6 antennas and not 4. There are the two external ones, two internal one in the nose and yes that top bulge is not just there for the strap, there are two more in there as well. Of the 6 only 4 transmit though. There is then also a WiFi antenna behind one of the lower air ducts and the 2.4Ghz RC RF antenna behind the other. There is also the gps antenna on the top as well in the same location as it was on the Goggles Integra.

Internally the overall design is actually very similar to the Integra however itā€™s not a simple goggle to tear down.

FCC Hack

Ok so this is where things are very much in flow right now. Today my self and others can not get the ham file to work. The Auto/Manual channel selection option is greyed out. I have tested every way possible and I can not get the ham file to do anything here in CE.

Itā€™s been confirmed that in FCC regions the file does still allow you to get the extra channels though.

Itā€™s also been confirmed to me that in the testing firmware the ham file did work in CE and it seems itā€™s only the public firmware itā€™s not. What is also interesting in this is that in the pre release the channel selection option was also available.

Today we do not believe DJI has intentionally blocked the ham file from working and there something else at play. There is a thought that it may only work with the main FPV remote and I will test that tomorrow when it arrives however others have already told me it does not still.

I am working with some folks in the background on trying to get this sorted as we are 99% DJI have not intended for this to stop working so watch this space.

Did you or can you try the drone tweaks app

Iā€™m working on that now. I have asked them for a demo key to test and see what it does.

Seen a few crashes of the Avata 2 but, sadly, this is the first iā€™ve seen that will require returning to DJI.

Mostly, kinda his faultā€¦ though Iā€™ve seen them shrug this off.

Just got an Avata 2 and thinking about changing it to FCC mode, is it legally permitted to fly to 100km/h?

Why would putting it in FCC make it fly 100km/h?

The firmware limits the speed to 60km/h when in CE mode.
