So maybe we won’t see a Walmart with an early box of the Air 3S then!
I saw this one yesterday which was citing the Forced Labor Prevention Act
And DroneDJ were reporting that the Air 3S was not available on Amazon US due to this issue too
A rarity for DJI product releases, the Air 3S is currently not listed on the company’s Amazon storefront.
It is interesting today in the new were two stories related to drone. Russia using use “Mavic” drone (according to the Guardian), to drop grenades on Ukrainian civilians and a drone used in the middle east to see who was in a building before it was demolished. (Trying to avoid rabbit hole politics in this thread)
It is clear that COTS (Commercial off-the-shelf) drones are used in warfare and will be used more in warfare. If I was Minister for Defence/Defence Secretary for a country - I would want my own domestic drone factory - to be cross subsided by the hobby scene.
I forgot all about DJI being banned from the CES show.
Can’t help wondering if the election in a couple of weeks, regardless of the outcome, will halt this motion completely - or at least significantly delay it by a year or more.
I’m sure someone is running the numbers to see how many votes they can get by promising to backtrack on the ban.
DJI have filled a complaint to the US Department Of Defence I just see on YouTube as shown below,
If, as I believe, DJI are blameless in this business, then they are doing the right thing by taking legal action within the US, but whether they’ll get anywhere against the might of the DoD is another matter; more than likely the outcome will be a legal morass that drags on for decades. And even if DJI win, they still won’t be able to to prevent US Customs from sitting on orders just to be obstructive.
What DJI are (rightly, IMHO) asking the US government to do is to admit that they are wrong, and modern corporate/administrative culture is shockingly bad at this because an admission of error is an invitation for legal damages compensation. Moreover, the Trump administration perfected (though to be fair they didn’t invent it) the art of false news and simply not agreeing that something had actually happened.
But, hang on a mo, just take a step back a minute; this is The Johnster, lifelong socialist and libertarian, supporting an overtly capitalist enterprise (albeit a world leader in it’s field and very good at what they do), operating in a country ruled by a tyrannical totaliiarian regime with a terrible human rights record, against the world’s leading democracy with probably the world’s best guaranteed constitutional freedoms. How the fuck did that happen…
We’ve been raising awareness and reporting on DJI for over six years.
Do some research, John.
I saw this on YT tonight as well regarding the court case. Apparently they have the backing of Obama’s Chief Justice ( counter claims that she’s turned her back on the US of A by ( sort of ) supporting their arch enemy China ( I truly believe America has a few bigger arch enemies to worry about, rather than DJI and China )
Whatever the outcome, the US and China are not going to go to nuclear war over hobby drones! And, at the risk of being called a Brit isolationist (Gales in Channel, Continent Isolated), DJI are big and robust enough to survive the loss of the US market, important as it is to them, and we will still be able to access them here (I hope).
Dunno, the US is a very big market for DJI.

For any US government to adopt a holier than thou attitude regarding DJI’s alleged involvement in suppression of the Uyghur’s human rights & use of their forced labour is rich. One of the current presidential candidate’s rhetoric seems to indicate a fondness for restriction of not only Muslims rights but many other communities as well. Just the tip of the iceberg and more opportunity to engage in Red Scare tactics like Joe McCarthy in the 1950’s. DJI is just more grist to the political mill imho.
I’m sure that lunatic fascist Trump will impose a $2m fee for every flight a drone of Chinese origin makes!! What a country…
