Good afternoon ladies and gents!
Was planning a flight just after lunch, I went to do my usual checks before setting out but DJI Fly app closes after a second or two. Noticed that Waze app does the same and spotify as well. All other map apps like apple maps and google maps seem to be ok. Anyone experiencing the same thing? I have done the phone reboot, all apps are up to date. Looks like that’s the afternoon flight gone…
Sounds like a phone issue- what phone are you running? I’d have said soft reset/check for updates first but sounds like you’ve tried that
Worth an app reinstall?
EDIT: Weirdly just seen multiple posts on mavicpilots with the same issue- worldwide. Something’s amiss…
EDIT EDIT: Do you have Facebook on your phone?
Spotify, Pinterest, Tinder, and other iOS apps were crashing again due to a Facebook issue - The Verge
I’ve got an iphone 11 pro max. I’ve done the app reinstall as well but still the same. I’m gonna check out other forums and maybe news as well and find out what’s happening…
There’s loads of reports on it, it’s facebook
It’ll work offline/in airplane mode
Its always worthwhile running the Fly App in Airplane anyway ;o)
And the alleged fix
Really silly question, will putting my phone on airplane mode not affect the gps location settings (like would i be flying blind bar within VLOS)? I understand that if my phone is not on airplane mode, there is a chance that calls and text messages may interfere with my concentration due to the desire to answer and reply to such calls and messages.
Stick it in do not disturb and that won’t happen.
The drone has GPS and its that, that gets the location for its home point.
Thank you!
I’ve just downloaded the app as per instruction from link, fingers crossed…
After downloading the VPN app, DJI fly app, waze , etc. seems to be working ok though the fly app seems to show my location about 5 to 6 houses away. I will try to fly on airplane mode later. That’s me driving up to Guildford this afternoon sorted. Thank you guys.
Worth a compass calibration on your phone?
Glad you got sorted mate, safe flying
Had the same issue yesterday. Seems its Dji servers!!! Turn off data and all works great.
???
You don’t even need to be connected to the internet when flying.
Indeed - a lot of people, including myself, always fly in Airplane Mode (no pun … ).
After driving to a site for over an hour I started the app to the instant crash and repeated crashers there after. I googled and came across post with the same issue. The guy stated when the app starts and it has a data connection it will try to use it if not it carries on no problems, With the data turned on and the servers down it apparently has a brain fart and crashes. PS will try the airplane mode next time.
It also has the nasty habit of not letting you fly if it detects a firmware update is available.
Imagine being stuck in Backwardville with a shite connection but brilliant shooting opportunity hampered by having to update.
Moral of the story, fly in airplane mode, if you have a habit of forgetting set up a shortcut so that opening DJIFLY puts the phone in Airplane mode.
Magic thanks.
So I had a great afternoon flying my MA2, having done the firmware updates to my drone and batteries yesterday. For the first two batteries all went well and as a new flier I practiced various manoeuvres without looking at the screen. I had a little fun too, checking out sport mode for example.
The problem occurred when I changed to the third battery. I was flying at 50m AGL and a distance of 500m. The conditions were perfect for testing my eyesight and I still had VLOS when the app (v1.2.2) crashed.
I tried to relaunch it but it wouldn’t restart. I admit i momentarily panicked before remembering reading that I could still fly the drone anyway. By that point I had completely lost sight of the drone so I hit RTH. It seemed an age before I saw her again at which point I regained control and brought her home safely.
Before I malign DJI’s software I should point out that a little later I discovered that the storage on my iPhone 11 Pro was maxed out (too much music and too many videos). That prevented WhatsApp from loading and may have been the cause of the Fly app crash. It was too late to test that theory and I hope for some decent weather to try again tomorrow.
I wonder whether anyone else has had a similar experience?
Hi @IslandBarnDave I’ve moved your post here lots of info on app crashes, I think you may have answered your own question though if WhatsApp wouldn’t even open.
In better news you now know that it’s controllable without the app open
