@ianinlondon

Just watched your first flights, looked like the experience was a lot to take in. Looked great, although I expected longer flight times, signal loss seemed unexpected given your environment, will be good to hear your thoughts once you’ve had some time with it.

First thoughts? Fking insane! Really, this thing is mad… managed to keep it in Sports mode and hit that 100 kmh speed for most of the flight…
Tomorrow, the motion controller…

Can’t wait! Great video BTW. Even with you staring at the floor the whole time :rofl:

I do that as well, but not ideal for range as ideally you want to be facing the drone for the antennas to receive best reception. But it is natural reaction to look down. Anologe it’s more important to be looking at the drone so the patch antenna has a clear path to the drone for best picture quality. Decent quality goggles have diversity so 2 antennas one patch antenna that catches the signals from the drone in a cone directly out the front of the goggles and the second antenna is usually an omni directional (looks like a mushroom) to pick up the signal when the drone goes outside the cone from the patch antenna.

Hope this makes sense, could be why you had connection issues @ianinlondon if the drone was behind you the goggle antennas are pointing away from the drone and also with looking down the cone is pointing at the floor. :+1:t2:

The blood muscle and bone from your skull as well as the trees would seriously block the signal :+1:t2:

Your head blocks signal. 5.8ghz is 5-6cm wavelength? Same size of a head. And it’s mostly water. Which shorts out radio signals.
I think!

That’s what’s been bugging me. The dji fpv quad I think has the capability of 2.4ghz video transmission. Which has more penetration. Is it locked for the uk to 5.8ghz?

So… a new dji fpv air unit…

You need to alter the settings as the standard settings for the sticks are pretty slow in sports mode. Also when in sorts mode you have “cruise control” right hand button this keeps at the speed you were at b4 let go of the throttle. You can still increase or decrease this but when you let got of the throttle it keeps at that speed.

Then in sorts mode press the c button once (if you haven’t altered it from standard settings) now the turning is incredible. (It is in the settings in the goggles, 2 different speeds) Have a decent play with the settings in the goggles for the controller.
But yeah. I agree with you. It’s insane Ian.

Well done on not being sick, I wasn’t that lucky. You didn’t press the brake button. I tripped forward when I pressed it, it stops that fast.

The flight experience is just incredible.

When you are flying low, just look at the height you are flying on the display it will probably say about 20m ish. It’s disorientating. You think you are about to hit the floor and you are 20 feet up.
Well done on not crashing. :+1:
The motion controller is just something else.
Point and shoot. :grinning:

BTW, I only got about 6 ish mins on the first flight. I think it’s the excitement of the speed (animal from the muppets “faster faster” :joy:)

Look forward to more clips fly safe.

No it’s both
Ian had his head down and was behind the house.

Thanks all; yep, you lose all sense of spatial awareness when you’re in the goggles zone; had no idea I was looking down until I watched the video…
And good points on the head blocking the signal; I hadn’t turned with the flight.
But…
My first FPV flight and I didn’t crash… So Ian’s a happy lad

It’s a captivating experience. Flying from the perspective of the pilot sitting in the drone. It was what got me into it. @notveryprettyboy put his spare set of goggles on my face while he flew about and I was hooked.

Wait until you fly with the motion controller. You feel like a fighter pilot :+1:
