Yeah, looks like it … can’t think of any other purpose.
In the photo below, it shows the gimbal is attached only on one side, and that’s likely because it supports vertical shooting. It looks a lot like my Pocket 2 gimbal. Perhaps this is why it needs extra protection on the sides
Not a very aerodynamic design is it
The front looks pig ugly … like the pug of drones.
But as long as it’s an improvement on the Mini 2, I don’t mind. All I want from this is better dynamic range.
I remember thinking this about the frog looking Air2S but it grew on me and I now own one.
Not sure it’s going to be the case with this monstrosity
Let’s keep focus on function! If the ugly round thing helps protect the gimbal in a crash, it can look as ugly AF and it’s still good in my books
Having the gimbal controlled by just one arm will save weight but make it more vulnerable in a crash… Some actual camera specs would be nice…
I guess if you crash and snap the gimbal arm you can just switch it to the other side
The Mini 2 gimbal is plastic, but the Pocket 2 gimbal is metal - so may actually be as heavy - if not heavier. But I can confirm how solid it is.
I am sure I read a rumour somewhere that the Mini 3 camera will be the same as the Pocket 2. I hope so, as the image/video quality is far superior to the Mini 2. Not just because it shoots 4K/60, but it’s f/1.8 aperture and great dynamic range.
Birds in the sky might ignore an ugly drone more than say a pretty one lol
To be honest I don’t care how ugly it is, so long as it performs better than the one it is replacing and comes with the features we wanted
True. And if I lose it again, someone might decide not to pick it up and do a runner with it
A bit of a shame it has different batteries to the Mini and Mini 2. On the plus side, they have 200mah or 11% more capacity - which hopefully means even longer flight times. Current advertised flight time for Mini 2 is 31 minutes, so potentially this increases to 35 minutes
Will the extra battery not just get eaten up by the added sensors and electronics? Also if im correct the mini2 comes in a bit under 250g? I would imaging this drone will be knocking right on that door. So added weight will also be a factor?
I can’t comment about the extra juice these new obstacle avoidance sensors use - but surely it’s not 11% of the battery.
As for the weight, the Mini 2 is about 242g, and even if the Mini 3 is 249g … that’s a max of 2.8% heavier, which I doubt would warrant an extra 11% battery capacity. Equally, my Mini 2 with 3 crees is over 250g, and I see no noticable difference in flight time.
I think the Mini 3 will have a longer advertised flight time, as is the way of each new release. That said, we know it is only the ‘advertised’ flight time - in reality we may only see an extra minute or so
whats a crees
See here
loads on here using them on the Mini 2
Dji don’t allow customers to do things like that, cos it saves money for the customers…
