DJI Neo - Rumours, leaks, gossip and general discussion

It actually looks more stable than the Avata 1 - also not really made for freestyle and suffers horrendous propwash if you aren’t familiar with how it flies.

I’d guess these aren’t standard rates either

Still not got that adventurous with the Avata2 to change those settings, but will be playing with them on both the A2 & Neo, over the coming weeks

I’m hovering over the buy button on the avata 2.

Got a feeling the cost will come down in the next few months leading up to Xmas so will buy then.

The og avata is different in manual and play with the rates and its pretty agile.

Looking forward to the meet this weekend for some proper freestyle

Do you have critical battery set to land or RTH? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Watch Kyles review, he explains it in that

Currently have Mini 4 Pro with RC-2
Thinking of getting a Neo for a bit of fun.
Since the RC-2 is compatible with both Mini4 Pro & Neo, dooes anyone know if it is easy (or possible) to switch the RC-2 between the two when needed? Saves carrying round two RCs!
TIA

It’s just an unboxing for now as it’s charging.

@DOCTORSINISTER I’ve moved your post here to the thread that is full of similar advice and chat for folks looking to invest in DJI’s latest offering

Just picked up that if you use Spotlight you can select photo and if you stand still for 3 seconds the drone will automatically take a photo - looks like you have to use the Fly app on a mobile to achieve this though. :man_shrugging: :man_shrugging:

@Jhdee that is a top tip, but I tried it and I can’t get it to work. There isn’t an option to change the camera mode in Spotlight, and just standing still in front of it just keeps shooting video.

There is an option to switch mode in Manual, I tried doing that and then flipping to Spotlight, but it just stayed on video :pensive:

Still wouldn’t be as good as a Dronie though - the limitation of Spotlight is that you can only place the camera where you can reach to launch it from (unless you position it first by flying in Manual mode), whereas a Dronie would auto fly to a higher position.

Anyway, I did post to the DJI forum yesterday, no answer yet but here’s hoping! :crossed_fingers:

Thanks again everyone for looking! Has anyone else here managed to get a Neo in the air yet?

Had my little neo a couple of days now and what a fun little thing it is… however it will never replace my mini 3 pro … very different machines for very different things but great fun all the same

Keen to see some videos of you guys flying your Avata 2 and using your phone and follow of the Avata 2 with the neo, anyone willing to try this out?

I find this YT-ers videos informative.

He mentions taking automatic photos too

Positive update: I took another look at the tip from @Jhdee (to look at Spotlight mode) and I learned three things:

  1. I am a idiot who can’t follow simple instructions
  2. You can indeed take palm-launched selfies using Spotlight mode
  3. It still isn’t quite what I want but it is a great start

So if you connect the app, open Settings, then Spotlight, there is indeed a setting for Camera Mode that does give you the option of Photo or Video. Flip it to Photo, and from then on any palm-launch in Spotlight will take photos not video.

No idea how I missed that as it is in fact the ONLY setting available in Spotlight mode, I can only suggest I might have had too many glasses of wine that night to be safely flying a drone around my living room!

So this is awesome, still not as good as the “Dronie Photo” function that I am still holding out for, but definitely progress.

Why do I still want Dronie Photo? Two reasons:

  1. With Spotlight you have to “place” the drone where you want it to shoot from, which limits you to any space you can reach with your hand. Dronie lets you fly several metres up in the air to take the shot from varying distances.

  1. I am lazy. With Spotlight I have to place the drone/camera, walk to where I want to be photographed, wait for the shot, then walk back to collect the drone. With Dronie I can just stand in one place and let the drone do the work

I have posted all that to the DJI thread and a couple of others have jumped in to support it. DJI team have responded that they will pass it onto the product team so fingers crossed that might reach the right desk.

Thanks everyone, I’ll let you all get back to discussing other features rather than just indulging my apparent selfie obsession…
