A new version of Drone Scene has been released
(Missed the May update? Take a look here!)
What’s new in the October 2024 update?
Read on!
(Missed the May update? Take a look here!)
New Feature
You can now edit or delete your Parking and TOAL markers on the map.
If you’ve dropped the marker pin in the wrong place, or defined the marker as a Parking marker instead of a TOAL marker, you can now edit your marker and either move it and/or change the marker type.
Similarly, if you’ve added two markers by accident in the same place, you can delete the one you don’t want.
You can edit or delete any of your markers on any location, there is no time limit on the editting window. You can only edit your own markers though, not markers added by other people
New Feature
– Requested by @OzoneVibe
A new drop down list has been added to the location filtering options.
You can now sort the results of your filter by how popular a location is (ie. how many people have flown there) or by how desirable a location is it (how many people wish to fly there) or by date.
UI / UX Change
Because Class D airspace is not relevant to drones it has been removed from the list of available map layers:
Sort of
There might be the odd rare occasion where you need to look at Class D airspace for some random reason and if that is the case, you can put the layer back on your menu.
Edit your profile to show or hide the Class D airspace layer:
Bug Fix
When you add a new location to the map and you include a photo of your location, it was 50/50 as to whether your image would appear in the related discussion thread here on the forum.
The photograph would always display correctly on Drone Scene but sometimes the image wouldn’t make it over to the forum and a link to the image would be shown on the forum, instead of the image itself.
Bug Fix
A bug crept in to the May update which meant when you were adding a Parking or TOAL marker to the map, the existing markers were not visible.
This led to some duplicate markers being added to some locations because you could not see where the existing markers were
Bug Fix
– Reported by @JockyB
This wasn’t actually our bug, but a bug in the Altitude Angel API (we’ve found and reported a few of these)
Altitude Angel have always had two “flight types”, either Recreational or Commercial.
At some point they added another type of Unspecified, which is used by flight reports made by their own applications.
The bug saw all Unspecified flight types being reported to Drone Scene as Commercial.
When their bug was fixed, we then needed to make a minor change to Drone Scene for it to be compatible with their new Unspecified flight report types.
Bug Fix
We found another bug in the Altitude Angel API whereby any flight reports for longer than 12 hours were failing and throwing an error.
This bug was also affecting their own applications so they thankfully prioritised a fix and had the issue resolved five days later.
Bug Fix
Unfortunately, another bug was introduced in the May update (May’s update was quite large!) which prevented the Report Location functionality from working.
Other Random Stuff
Our non-insured members will occasionally see a popup banner on Drone Scene, promoting the benefits of insured membership.
Closing that popup banner caused the entire site to re-load.
We hope you find this level of release notes / details useful
But don’t forget!
In order to use all the features of Drone Scene you need to be a Member of Grey Arrows Drone Club - and Membership is available from as little as £0.04 per day
As ever, please continue to enjoy Drone Scene and please keep those feature requests coming!
At least you explain the bug fix unlike DJI
Great behind the scenes work.
Do you have to uninstall and reinstall the web based app on IOS?
No, at the most you could perhaps force-close it to pick up the changes.
Brill Rich, and here’s me thinking the duplicated TOAL and parking pins were down to my twitching!
They were - that’s the main reason Rich added “de-twitch”.
Sorry for making you doubt yourself Colin mate, that one was completely on me
Hopefully you can skim over a few of your recent locations and delete or move any duplicate parking or toal markers without too much hassle
This is an excellent feature Great work
