Hi all,
Going on holiday next week to northern France and thought Iād take my drones with me. Wondered if anyone has any advice/links etc. for what laws or regulations Iām going to have to comply with to fly over there? Iāve got a Mini 2 and a Mavic 2 Pro.
Thanks!

Please see the thread at Flying in France - Registration & Exam for leisure flights
You will need to register yourself with EASA - recommend either Ireland or Luxembourg as both in English.
Just donāt be tempted to go near pAris with the drone!
Fill up with fuel before you come back!
Taking jerry cans! ![]()
Thank you!
Dont forget you may well be ādoneā by Customs for importing fuel when you return ![]()
I did the IAA Ireland test and got the Op ID etc but it wasnāt free like the France version? Loads easier though by the look of it. I used the QR code from my licence and stuck it on the battery door of my mini 2.
Not so cheap in France! Currently between 2.10 and 2.40 Euros / litre for diesel.
Do we need to fill out the form for permission to take aerial photographs in France?
Its all in the link @Jhdee sent you ie 'Another peculiarity in France is that remote pilots must submit a form if they want to take aerial photographs. All drone pilots (private and commercial) must fill out this document if they want to take pictures or videos of the light spectrum visible to humans. So this rule applies to owners of pretty much all camera drones.
To get permission, fill out the CERFA-12546 form. If you are a foreigner, send the document to the Direction de la sĆ©curitĆ© de lāaviation civile (DSAC) Northern Office at least 15 days before the intended flight. Please also submit your EU drone licence and identity card. The permit is valid for three years.ā

They are mainly supermarkets in Calais. Try getting those prices in the Dordogne or Charente - particularly at an independent garage.
OK, I need help please! I am new to all of this and have been chasing my tail trying to understand the rules. In simple terms, as I am a simple soul⦠if I am taking my Air 2S (595grams) to France to use at my mateās house which is in the middle of nowhere I DO NOT need to register with Alpha Tango?
Obviously I have a UK CAA Pilot and Operator number and will follow all the advice for flying commercially with a drone such as discharged batteries.
Thanks in advance!
Your UK CAA Pilot and Operator numbers are not valid in Europe following Brexit, you need to register in any one of the EU countries. You also need a permit in France to photo or video with your drone.
@Dieselmuppet its all in the threads above. Flying in France - Registration & Exam for leisure flights - #45 by Jhdee
Like the UK it doesnāt matter if your flying in the middle of nowhere you still need the appropriate IDs etc.
I will be flying in France soon but I have struggled on one point.
I found a website (drone-traveller.com) that insists a form must be filled in to take aerial footage in France.
I cannot find this on any French authority website, itās not on the French 10 rule poster nor on the government guidance website for sub 250g drones flying for recreation.
Anyone had any experience or first hand knowledge of flying in France?
I may need to reach on to authorities directly but running out of time.
Cheers
Regarding aerial photography there is a useful thread on this site titled " [CERFA-12546 Photography Permit in France". It is a long thread but if you work your way through it you will find everything you need in English. However you will need to allow at least 2 weeks for permission to be granted.
Iām in France now and am still waiting for permission to come through. Must admit I cannot get too bothered about it as earlier this year I flew for 10 weeks without even knowing that it was required!
The form can be found via this link:
