So when I try and connect my goggles to the quad tomorrow to check I can link the two ok. I should use the battery? Is this correct?
just keep in mind that while the quad is powered up on the bench it isn’t getting any air flow and therefore can overheat rather quickly. also a quick tip just so you are aware never power up a VTX without an antenna connected as this can permanently damage your VTX ![]()
Cheers mate. I think my vtx came connected anyway so hopefully thats fine. I did power up my goggles without antenna connected though but I am hoping I haven’t done them any damage… Fingers crossed.
Appreciate your advice on air flow too. I know what you mean as I have noticed my vtx does get very hot when the battery is plugged in which is why I try to use the usb when I can. But as I have now figured out it doesn’t turn on to its full capacity by the sounds of it and therefore the led on the vtx weren’t showing. Don’t even get me started on those LEDs. I just done @SirGunner brain in there! Lol
Analogue only goggles will be fine as they don’t transit. They won’t get a very good signal is all (not a problem on the “bench” at home). But never power up the quad without an antenna on. You can quite quickly change channels on then once working, that’s not anywhere near as hard as binding the the radio transmitter.
Digital goggles (HDZero, DJI and the new walksnail system), so transmit, but you’ll be A OK with this one.
If you can get into betaflight (which you should be able to), you can turn down the VTX power to pit mode (if supported, when you press save it’ll either be on or off), will help but even then will get hot! Just make sure when flying you up the VTX power later
Loads to remember. You can check VTX power state on the VTX tab, and details on the right on what it supports, etc (my screenshot just virtual mode, i.e. no quad connected)
A fan on the desk will help with heat. Keep leaning, keep reading, keep trying, keep crashing, keep tring, rebuild, do it again!.. heh… It’s a great hobby
and IT WILL CLICK one day ![]()
Haha yeah thanks bud. I feel I am learning pretty quick. Albeit with the help and brains and high patience levels of you lot on here. Also It’s amazing how quick you can learn when you’ve spent around 700 quid isn’t it! Lol
is that all… I don’t wanna add up mine from last 10 months… TBH the learning, building , hacking and patching is the majority of the hobby and yeah the guys here are awesome ![]()
Haha nah all good, just finished a late dinner. Everyone here will gladly help you as youve seen with everyones advice. Just make sure you ask questions as things like powering up vtx without antenna connected can quickly ruin your day
lol
Lol yes definitely sounds like something every new person needs to know!
Cheers for you help again on that tonight. Tomorrow I will be trying to desolder the receiver so I’ll let you know how that goes.
@GunjaFPV haha sounds painful to both our ego and our wallets. Why do we do it to ourselves.
Na it’s definitely worth it by the feel you must get from flying around and having the birds eye view in the goggles. That’s what I’m most excited about.
It is pretty awesome to be honest
You will probably also find you get alot of satisfaction when you repair, modify or finally get something working after pulling all your hair out ![]()
Yeah let us know how you get on, and if you need to ask anything we’re only a couple of keyboard taps away
Good luck ![]()
Yeah I know what you mean and I would enjoy that. Once I have flown abit I would be more happy to mess around trying to fix and stuff it’s just the initial flight you want to just get it out the box and fly when your inpatient like me. Lol.
Nice one mate. Take care.
flux, flux flux… and some heat
De-Solder from the Receiver end, as if you mess it up and break the RX, it’s a lot easier (and cheaper) to buy and replace a £12 RX, than a £50+ Flight controller ![]()
Yeah thanks for that, so I now have both confirmation from hobbyrc that their radio is on accst V2 EULBT
and flywoo have just told me that their reciever in my drone is on FCC v1 so there’s my problem I guess?
As I say will be having a mate who does mobile repairs unsolder today. I’ll let you know how it goes and yes will be from the receiver end thank you for that
Hi guys, so the guy at hobbyrc now says its would be easier for me to just buy a new receiver which is the correct firmware. Rather than sending the one I was about to unsolder today to him?
Is he right would this be best for me?
Cheers
He’s recommended this one
HobbyRc know there stuff, and they sold you the controller too so he should know which firmware the new receiver is on and if its compatible. Its probably not a bad idea to be honest
Then your phone repair guy can fit it for you, @FpvChris ![]()
Can never have too many spares, either. 6 months later… Ooh, look, I have this receiver spare, I’ll build a new quad around it. ![]()
Also, check exactly which version you need. From the product listing:
**** PLEASE NOTE, New Stock now ships with ACCST V2.1 (EU LBT) Firmware on. Its far more likely you want ACCST V1 EU LBT firmware so if in doubt, please choose a different firmware option or contact us to discuss before purchasing ****
I’m sure they’ll make sure you get the right one.
