General 3D printing chit chat

 No far from it. It is just drawing the right shape at the right size in the right place. The fact i have an engineering bend rather than an artist flair helps.
A large proportion of, and all the ā€œthingyverse customisableā€ items are Openscad. Have a look at About PPLLab - Thingiverse for some of the type of thing i tend to create all very simple really.
I think it is unbeatable if you want to change an existing stl. (Remove something, add a logo or name, alter holes/pins, scale and incorporate as part of another design etc)

Yo @PlasticModels Vinny, whatā€™s your experience like printing TPU?

TPU is a must for FPV quads and some Wing parts too. Was wondering what your take on TPU is?

Now pretty much everywhere you look on the Internet says that you canā€™t print TPU on a bowden setup. But my Ender3 prints TPU absolutely fine with zero issuesā€¦ in fact I actually think it prints TPU better than PLA sometimes

Now my Ender3 isnā€™t completely stock by any means but I havenā€™t bothered with the direct drive mod so itā€™s still bowden tube but I have upgraded to an all metal extruder (the non dual gear version) and a hardened steel nozzle but other than that its standard as far as the extruder and hotend goes. And I get great results printing TPU. Can be a little bit stringy so I was thinking of increasing the retraction more but at the same time I donā€™t mind the little bit of clean up to get rid of the stringing so do I just leave it alone?

I guess Iā€™m asking what tips and tricks you can suggest for TPU? thatā€™s if you print TPU :+1:t2:

Old Ender 3 pro, bowden tube, dual gear extruder, flexi magnetic bed.
Cura profile for TPU does not have many changes from my usual PLA one.
Main difference is speed, 80mm/s for PLA but 20 for TPU.
Retraction 7.5mm at 45mm/s, 6mm for PLA.
I use a 0.6mm nozzle for everything, unless I want bigger, up to a 1mm at times, tried Iron and Stainless but usually go back to brass, even for Carbon Fibre, cheap enough to change.

The one thing I hate about TPU and it might just be me, is support removal, horrendous.
Soaking the print in warm water sometimes helps.

if a problem with bed adhesion then use a raft, start print with PLA then at the start of the top raft layer do a hot swap to TPU.

My support removal has been fine as well. Although I do use Prusaslicer for my ender3 with its standard support settings. and they remove just fine need a good pull sometimes due to the strechy nature of TPU but other than that its spot on :+1:t2:

I keep forgetting about Prusaslicer and how good its supports are.
I have tried itā€™s organic supports on PLA and was impressed.
Will need to give them a go when reaching for the TPU again.

I have different printers for different jobs. I have a Bambu P1s and CR10 Max for all TPU Jobs and they are set for TPU only the same as some printers are set up for carbon fibre, Wood, PETG most of the customer I print for want PLA so have many more PLA printers

Stringing will happen when the material is at the higher point of melting and not cooling in time, So for this I would have twin fans each side of the hot end, You need to be really careful as TP from one company will be very different from TPU from another.

When you have found a good company to get materials from I would say stick with them as others may be cheaper but can give you problems as I have been down that road myself

Yeah Iā€™ve found a brand of TPU that I like, the stringing is minor so I donā€™t mind cleaning it up a bit once printed.

Thanks for your input :slightly_smiling_face:

Bottom half fits well

Havenā€™t these things gone USB C yet ?

Yeah the power supply is

Wouldnā€™t doubt it for a minute Wayne

Oh nice!

I love the hinged access to the GPIO :star_struck:

Reminded me to check in my 10 hour print

looks like warping, maybe try with a brim

Hair spray works a treat

I use this stuff, itā€™s hair spray even smells the same

Never clean the bed, just a little recoat

You can see the imprint from my last print

I followed your link,

Need to level the bed a bit better - no auto leveling - not brim.
Just was lazy.

I have auto-level now but the spray is a game changer
