After a back injury has had me all but house- bound through the summer, I was looking for something to get me out of the house. I had fancied a drone for a while now and last week an ad popped up for the Mavic Mini - I checked out some reviews and vids and thought ‘that’ll do’ and found myself walking out of Argos last Sunday with the fly more bundle.
I have since made around a dozen flights in various exotic locations (kitchen, living room, dining room) and am hoping for some half decent weather this weekend so I can get out for my first real flight.
Looking for recommendations for quiet flying spots in and around Sheffield/Chesterfield so I can get some practice in (want to avoid annoying Joe public if possible)
Sure there’ll be plenty of questions to come so thanks in advance
A growing number of our members also own the Mavic Mine … so you are amongst good company.
If you haven’t already, take a look at the Map of Members and you’ll see there are a few other members in your neck of the woods, some of whom I’m sure will come and say Hi.
The forum’s search functions are a very efficient way to find previous threads and posts that might already have covered topics in which you are interested in learning more or answer that niggling question but, when this doesn’t turn up what you’re after, there’s a wealth of knowledge amongst the members, so ask away over on #questions-and-answers.
Also, if you’ve not seen it, check out our map of places where members have flown in the past … which, obviously, doesn’t necessarily mean they are still OK to fly and, as always, any pilot needs to check that everything’s OK before flying at any of them.
Welcome on board - I spent some of my schooling days between Chesterfield and Sheffield … but that was a long time ago. Was back there only last year mind and what I recall of the area is that there should be plenty of open spaces for flying.
Look forward to seeing your photos / vids in due course.
Welcome aboard!!
Can’t wait for your thoughts on the MM as I got one myself recently. Total newbie myself and only joined a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy!!
I found this thread helpful
Welcome mate, I’m a newbie myself and this is about the best drone club out there, loads of good help and a wealth of knowledge amongst the members, you’ll get meets around you which are fantastic fun
Not a dissimilar story to mine. I was medically retired due to a spinal injury, and like you the prospect of sitting in my underwear watching daytime TV was not the way to go. I started with the humble Hubsan X4 toy quadcopter and it just spiralled out of control thereafter. Let that be a warning.
Starting with the Mavic Mini is a top choice and I’m sure it’ll pay for itself in no time with big smiles.
