Hey from Stockport!

Heard about these forums while doing all my research so thought i would join.

I’ve always done photography but its taken a back seat since having my son who is now 3. I’ve always fancied a drone and think now is a good time to get into it to put a new perspective on photography.

I’ve just ordered a DJI Mini 2 and awaiting delivery so looking forward to getting out in stockport!

Have you seen our members map? (Click the burger-menu in the top right) You may find some pilots living near you. Feel free to add yourself to the members map too :+1:t2:

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Absolutely!

In fact one place i want to go and fly! Im still trying to work out what i need to do in order to fly at the Etihad as it says its an authorisation zone and needs to be unlocked!

Thanks for that, So did you not go with in the authorisation zone? Would love to fly over it but im guessing that isn’t allowed!

DJI drones: This location is within a DJI authorisation zone, this needs to be unlocked in advance using the DJI Fly Safe Self Unlocking website.

It wasn’t me and as I use Dronehacks I wouldn’t need to unlock

But @kvetner did use the fly app to do the unlock

Thanks, do you know how long it takes to unlock? is it an instant thing you do when you get there

It’s a self unlock from what I can gather as it a blue zone

I unlocked in advance, because I’d tried when at the site on a previous visit and couldn’t get it to work.

But it was straightforward, just annoying to have to do it all given this is a site with no flight restriction zone.

Just DJI being DJI.

I didn’t fly over the football stadium, but I did fly over the adjacent athletics stadium. That was mainly down to distance and maintaining VLoS. I obviously wouldn’t fly over when there’s an event on.

Where did you unlock it and how long did it take to unlock?

I logged into the DJI website on my computer at home. To just a few minutes.

The link above explains the 2 options to unlock, like @kvetner says at home with a pc or on-site using the fly app…. Note this will only work if you use a phone with a SIM card and mobile data enabled

Some of us use stand alone tablets and the on-site unlock from what I can gather will not work with this setup

Hi sgeary, fellow drone flyer here also in Stockport, what part are you in ? I’m up near Bredbury Green, have the DJI FPV, MAvic 2 Pro & Mavic 3 so get out when I can, some decent fields near me, may bump in to each other now & again, as long as it’s not the drones, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the warm welcome Mini 2 has now been dispatched. So now just have to wait impatiently refresh the status page of the tracking all weekend!
