Hi, a total newbie here (so far I’ve managed to fly in a room as my DJI arrived yesterday) - I’ve arranged the flyer/operator ID, but I have zero experience and I am a bit struggling with finding out about the ‘byelaws’ - it’s not super clear where I can and I can not fly.
Looking for Public Liability Insurance? Then look no further, we offer £5,000,000 worth of cover to our Insured Members. Details of our insurance can be found at:
Looking for recommendations of places to fly? Check out our interactive map on Drone Scene and please feel free to add locations of your own too
Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.
Our Associates are able to enjoy a lot of great services for free but our Members are eligible for a whole lot more! Read all the details about our Membership Benefits?
And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.
If you are in Cheam and want somewhere easy and safe to get started, Nonsuch Park is probably your best bet. There is an area right next to one of the car parks that I have used which is open (few trees to get stuck in!) and seems to have very few people walking through it so I generally get the place to myself.
I might even pop in there on Saturday morning, weather permitting, as I will likely be passing it anyway
So if anyone is around and interested, my plan is to get to the above spot in Nonsuch Park about 11am tomorrow Sat 29th March, probably for an hour or two. Weather looks dry and sunny and low wind so should be ideal.
Anyone welcome to join me, or not, I will be the one in the camping chair and weird goggles.
I am reading this literally sitting in the spot as I was curious - the wind is too strong for my liking (but it’s my 2nd day of droning!). I am booked tomorrow until around 11.30, I’ll see in the morning how things are working and whether I can join you.
