I enjoy making, modding and fixing even more than actually flying…
To start with it was so when I went out flying after a crash I still had another drone to fly… now my frames and flying are better that’s less of an issue!

I do enjoy doing that but I have enough expensive hobbies, quads come second to planes for me as it is and the quad I’ve got does everything I could ever want.
I’ve been looking at planes… I finally found my local R/C group. They fly from a local airfield and are happy to have quads flying there. Anyway I am tempted with a 3d printed fixed wing plane… FPV of course.
If you need any help feel free to ask…I have a fleet of aircraft. I would start Los before jumping right into fpv though.
Short answer, yes, and thanks for your honesty!
I’m on my first drone too and like you, also a DJI Mini 2, given as a birthday present from the family the first week of September.
Thought I was doing OK but second week of October flew too close to a tree, caught by a gust, overcompensated and ended up as you say, with the props hitting the leaves. It fell to the grass below and the drop snapped one of the front struts although the props themselves and electrics were still OK. Fortunately my wife had taken out DJI Care so x3 payments of £15 hasn’t been too bad: she did ask if it could be super-glued and the insurance left for something more serious but I didn’t think that would be a good idea both for flying precision and possibly invalidating the warranty. Video wasn’t running so I didn’t record it or I’d post here, embarrassed or not!
Lesson learned. I always check the UAV Forecast app and immediate local conditions now.
I’m sure that’s normal. I just have very bad experiences with LOS and quads years ago. Put me off completely. You see my eyes are crappy and my depth perception stinks.
I’ll see how I get on. There’s loads of very experienced pilots and builders at this club.
Drones are horrible LOS to be fair. You should be fine if all else fails get someone to buddy box with you at the club.
Thanks, Rob. You have a great family, that’s an amazing gift.
I would have thought the same way like your missus, to keep it flying if it was ok.
Yes, we live and learn, I suppose.
Well I feel stupid now cut motor wires to short so extended them and shrink wrapped it. I completely forgot to wrap them individually and u can probably guess what happened powered up the drone tested it and it blew up and popped a hole in my esc. Completely shorted it damn.
Ouch…
Ouch indeed. Well lesson learnt don’t forget to wrap exposed wires
Aw, jeez. It happens though.
Got a spare mamba 50 amp esc and that works with speedybee fc luckily. Cough prefer mamba anyway cough. But still £40 ish in smoke
feel your pain, felt terrible when it happened to me too, hopefully you will get over it and it will most likely help improve your awareness.
Thank you, @Teejay10. I am hoping for that as well.
We all learn by mistakes. I live near to a canal, very narrow across with lots of obstructions both sides, with walkers, bikes etc appearing from nowhere. Always launch from a field away from the towpath and fly over the canal and do as you wish, altitude is your friend! Hope you’ll get a new drone, good luck it’s a great hobby!
Thought I’d try a walk in the woods. Shouldn’t have tried to switch between watching the drone and the screen, but you all know that. Anyway, this happened, Mini2 was OK though.
Thank you. I will remember that - altitude.
Those trees just come out of nowhere, don’t they. Good to hear your M2 survived.
