Hi All
My drone should be being delivered today so looking to build my flying experience.
I’m a full time writer and photographer and have wanted to add a drone to my repertoire for some time.
Unfortunately my home is not that far from Gloucestershire Airport so I’m looking for some open space not too far away that I can use to practice.
Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.
And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.
Hi @YellowHound and welcome to GADC. Lots of help available on here and sure someone local will pop along to help . What drone are you having delivered today?
A DJI Mavic 4 Pro.
Looked seriously at the Mini 5 Pro and the Air3S but decided on the Mavic 4.
Going to be a steep learning curve…
I do have an effectively unused Yuneec Typhoon in my garage (long story!) and completed the first part of what was the required CAA approval programme at the time - quite some time ago! (a very intensive theory course and exam…).
I just purchased a Mavic 3 Pro to go with my Mini 5 Pro and Neo 2. Different drones for different situations Let us know how you get on with with the Mavic 4, It’s a steep learning curve at the beginning isn’t the typhoon 6 rotor
I’m not far from you - in Up Hatherley.
My main priority is to find a nice large open space without a lot of visitors - just need a large field so I can practice.
Any ideas?
Painswick Beacon (approx. 5-10 minutes drive): Highly recommended for 360-degree views of the Severn Vale and the Forest of Dean. It provides ample open, elevated space for takeoff and landing.
**Barrow Wake Viewpoint (near Birdlip):**Offers panoramic views of the Cotswold countryside.
Drakestone Point (Stinchcombe Hill): A ridge with open grassland providing extensive views over the Severn Vale.
Local Open Fields: There are numerous public bridleways and footpaths surrounding Upton St. Leonards; however, always ensure you have access rights and are not flying within 50m of buildings, people, or livestock.
