LiftOff Times

Haha, fair enough if you enjoy that. Though I very much don’t look forward to you beating my time because my competitive nature will demand I smash yet another 200 virtual drones into the ground chasing after you. :joy:

Yup, once you get to a point it becomes really difficult to get quicker

I need some inspiration and tips, can you guys post a recording of some of your lap times! I wont bother as im still in the 2min mark lol

My 2 cents

You likely need to increase your camera tilt - this will help you fly quicker (I am now set to 30 deg - will likely give 35 a go tonight). It takes a bit of time to get use to, you need to be able to fly consistently low to the ground where the gates are wider

You will notice that when you lower the throttle to decrease altitude, you can also yaw the quad and drift with the ‘grip’ coming back when you increase the throttle again to regain altitude. This technique (lower thr./yaw/increase thr.) helps with tighter turns.

Then get into the mindset of always trying to increase throttle as much as possible - if all that stop you is the altitude change it would create, then go ahead and increase pitch to compensate - it will also make you accelerate fwd.

I hope this helps

Tips other than the obvious “keep practicing”, would be to bump your camera angle to 35+ degrees (up arrow on keyboard) if you find yourself staring at the top 10% of your screen to see where you’re going.

I recorded this for you but @Schnauzer_FPV was beating the times shown here by about 10 secs - maybe give you a feel for an ~80% throttle run though (included a couple crashes to show it’s a process and not because I couldn’t be bothered to clip them out :joy:).

Ill put one on my youtube chnanel later if you want? Just keep practicing i guess. And like others said dont forget to change your camera angle.

Damn, this is not easy

FWIW, flying at higher speeds and especially at the transitioning speed your at right now is really tricky in my opinion. I might be wrong about the following statement, but this is at least how it feels to me.

At low speeds your quad copter is flat, so you use Yaw more than Pitch to turn the (low angled) camera.
At higher speeds your quad copter is almost vertical, so you use Pitch more than Yaw to turn the (higher angled) camera.

That isn’t strictly correct, but am sure someone could put some physics on a whiteboard to prove it’s at least partially correct… :joy:

Another thing is in real life and cinematic flying, you’ll often reduce throttle and speed when things are going awry in a corner, but high speed in sims I find myself pushing the thottle even more to help correct a corner.

Dunno, maybe something in there that helps? You did knock 10 secs off your time today though so on the right track!

Nice flying

I was trying to get a video with windows game bar (Which isnt very good) with the stick overlay on and somehow managed a new pb

Hi @Schnauzer_FPV I’ve edited your post to include the OneBox preview.

To do this just paste the YouTube link into a new line on its own with no spaces etc.

No need to use the insert hyperlink button in the message composer or any embed code, its all done automatically for you if you follow the above.

Your video is set to private :smirk:

Cheers @SparkyFPV , I wasnt sure the best way to do it

15 seconds?

Obviously not at the level of the 2 identified aliens on here - but tried 35 deg last night and lap times were dropping nicely but could not manage for the life of me to put 3 half decent laps together. Today lunch break picked up the controller and voila - first sub 1mn race
40 deg - here we come

Even I don’t know how I managed that sub 16 seconds!

Amnesia… interesting… could validate the alien abduction theory…

Seriously - were you guys actively drone racing / or are you still are? Very impressive skills :ok_hand:

If I can get in the flowstate I can get pretty quick but i do crash a lot first. I haven’t tried racing irl but would love to give it a go

40 deg setting - shaved another 5s! (damn I was slow   )

Another productive lunchbreak somehow  - first sub-17s lap and shaved another 2s of my pb
