Litchi chit-chat ... What's Litchi? Should I use Litchi?

ā€œLooking at your first leg on the mission, 340m at 1km/h will take approximately 20 mins at that speed.ā€

Ah - ok. I think the penny might have dropped a bit more now. I (wrongly) assumed the speed would gradually change from 1km/h at waypoint 1 to 20km/h at waypoint 2.

However, what you are suggesting is that the entire journey from waypoint 1 to waypoint 2 would be 1km/h, and only when it gets to waypoint 2 will it change to 20km/h.

What a pain in the a***, but at least I understand that now. Thanks!

Litchi really does need better speed controls as adding several waypoints to facilitate speed change is just silly.

Another workaround

I have just had an idea!
Don’t sell the Mavic Mini that I recently replaced with a Mini 2 for SWMBO and buy Litchi for my new acquisition. OOPs, did I say my drone (number 3)?

Don’t tell SWMBO yet, I’ll just hide the Mavic away until she has forgotten it!

I actually tried this technique on a previous flight plan. Mixed results really. I find smoothly controlling speed with a tiny thumbstick very hard to do: twitchy fingers and thumbs maybe…especially when it is cold

Thanks for the reminder though!

Another Litchi question:-

I’m flying a waypoint mission. At each waypoint, I want a photo taken. Easy so far.

However, I’d like to take a photo, then rotate 30 degrees to the left, take another photo, then rotate 60 degrees to the right, then take another photo. Then I want the drone to fly to the next point and do the same.

The reason I want to do this is I want a 3-image panorama that I can stitch together in post if I find my base photo isn’t wide enough.

How do I do this?

There is an action to rotate the aircraft, but is that relative to where it is currently pointing, or absolute? Relative would be much better.

Litchi app is currently discounted by 30% for Black Friday.

Not sure if this is the correct forum but wondering if anyone has tried Red Waypoints? Seems similar to Litchi and there is a free slimmed down version available which I have downloaded but not tried yet.
Considering getting Litchi or perhaps Red Waypoints, the paid version is about £15 and hoping either would help my Mavic 1 get over the sometimes poor Wifi signal etc.

WiFi signals? I’m assuming you mean the RC to M1P signal?

If so - there’s absolutely nothing about the signal that will change whichever app you use on your phone/tablet.

Litchi is mature and relatively proven. Unless Red Waypoints has a feature set that completely wipes the floor with Litchi I would go with the latter.

Litchi should just get on with the mission in the case of a weak signal from your transmitter unless you have RTH enabled - I think!

Mini or pro ?

Just RTFM’d Red Waypoints for you:

1. If the Remote Controller looses connection with the aircraft, will the aircraft keep following the waypoints or will it return home?

By security issues, the aircraft will not continue the mission. By default it will RTH (Return To Home). But the aircraft action when loosing signal can be changed in the Advanced Configuration, changing the Fail Safe Mode to this different options: Return To Home, Land or Hover in place. We always recommend to use the Return To Home mode setting when loosing RC signal.

English seems to be their second language. And, although I do it all the time  a spelling mistake on a professional website is an indication of a lack of detail which may be reflected in the software …

Sorry, missed out that drone is a Mavic AIR 1!
My understanding was that once a mission was planned in Litchi, it would negate the need for input from my controller and the flight would be automated??
Happy for any education on my probably wrong understanding.

Thanks Macspite, I was a little sceptical about their language but would like to know if anyone has actually used it or, and this may be a big ask…have any GADC members living in Hampshire area got Litchi and would they like to meet up and show me what it’s like to use?
Cheers all.

Having a quick look through this thread will give you an idea … (skip the waffle - there’s the Litchi mission and later the video)

This search will help you find others …

I like your style of questionning, I can totally relate

Ah and just realised that was from 2019
Gawd,I’m stoopid

Not sure I’d change a word of that post though, even after 3 years.

I too have the original Mavic Air, and it works perfectly with Litchi. Unlike most modern DJI models, Litchi will complete your mission even when signal is lost.

My best films come from Litchi flights, if only for the fact that I have planned in advance from the comfort of my home, using Google Earth’s 3D mapping. That said, it is still important to have a view of your entire journey when you take off.

This film features Litchi on the original Mavic Air, and has a few hints on successful missions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXAHTNJ9704&ab_channel=Facherty

I was unaware of that fact. I assume they just do an RTH?

Hi facherty, that was my understanding that it would basically take control if you wanted to allow it.
Cheers for the response, think I will go down the Litchi route.
