Lost my drone during a speed attempt

There’s more warnings in that one flight than all mine in over 5 years!

M5 is closed northbound due to over turned tanker. A roads would be carnage I’d imagine. :frowning:

This video should give you a pretty good idea though shouldn’t it?

That’s where I was though. What I am having difficulty with is how far above ground it was when it disconnected. If it was high enough, it could have easily cleared that field and be in the next (north). Or higher still, north east. The weird thing is that it reconnected 300m north east of where it disconnected - as shown on that image I posted.

Drone wasn’t recording at the time? Footage not on the SD

The furrows (lines in the field) are very narrow - so this image would indicate I was quite low - maybe 30 foot.

No. Forgot to mention that. Other than flying today, I made 2 mistakes. (1) forgot to press record (done that before), and (2) forgot to set it to ‘Decend upon lost connection’ prior to taking off.

I only have airdata and screen recorder.

Ah mate I really hope you find it. I’ll be available tomorrow if you do need a hand but getting up there today will be horrendous.

If I wasn’t stuck working until sundown, I’d also offer a helping hand Chris. Here’s hoping your SAR mission is successful!

If the OH didn’t have plans for us tomorrow I’d have happily made my way down to help in the search and rescue efforts.

I reckon, given the drift speed at the end, the estimated AGL and assuming your ‘descend on signal loss’ change worked, it’s somewhere in the red polygon …

Either upside down in the crater it made on impact ( ), or stuck in those boundary trees.

Well Chris @clinkadink you certainly had the bollocks. Its a shame you lost her. I do hope you do find her and after this i think you should retire her and put her on a shelf in a display case with the airdata read out.:clap::fist_left::disappointed_relieved::disappointed_relieved:

Well, despite having the Legend, Dave aka @OzoneVibe :man_bowing:, we didn’t find her - even though we searched until about 6pm. I took the M2P up and scanned the fields from about 30’ up and down. Whilst Dave tackled a jungle which divided the 2 fields.

I good (but annoying) part, is that I know she’s there - since I reconnected to the drone about 5 times earlier, before the battery died. But it’s a massive space, with so many variables.

Rain is forecast from about 11am - 5pm tomorrow, and Sunday looking clear until after lunch. May try and get back out early tomorrow. But for now, I have a shed load of field footage to watch - whilst supping a beer (of course).

I saw this whilst in the field. An impressive and seemingly accurate reprensation of ‘what happened next’. I flew the M2P up and down this massive field for a good half hour. Didn’t see anything from the tablet, but it was getting dark. Will now review it on the 55" and maybe … just maybe, I spot something. Many thanks mate :+1:

The purple area is what I filmed with the M2P. I’ve not entirely covered your red polygon. May concentrate on that tomorrow - or whenever I get back out there. My knees/legs/pride are all but gone

I know hindsight is 20/20 but is there anything else you could attach to a drone to help find it? I have a tile which I was planning to attach to my M2P with velcro but never got around to it. Have an Airtag on the dog which I could try too! Never tried to find him or a lost drone yet but it seems the standard tools shipped with most drone manufacturers aren’t great in these situations…

Really hope you find it… Total legend for giving this a go!

Oddly enough, Dave and I were having the same conversation whilst searching. There must be something. It would need it’s own battery though. Dave did mention a few drones have 4G capability now, which would help. One thing is for sure, the OTTB features don’t cut it, once the drone’s battery dies. Definitely something I am now going to focus on, for sure.

Thanks mate. At the moment I feel less a legend, and more a plonker (again)

So the tile and the airtag have their own batteries and should certainly help loads… I’m going to have a test when the wind dies down a bit.

The tag I have is older and weighs next to nothing.

Would also consider putting a super bright micro led on the top… But that would necessitate the drone landing the right way up I guess…
