New kid on the block, (75 year old 🧓 Kid)!

Hi All, After enjoying still photography for a number of years with some success in exhibitions and competitions, last year I decided to swap from a conventional DSLR camera to the DJI Mini 3 Pro
Although I have had my DJI Mini Pro 3 for just over a year, I am a complete novice and lack confidence whenever I am out with the drone. I have registered the drone with the CAA and have a CAA flyer ID and have also taken the basic drone pilot test. I Used to live in Whitstable Kent but recently moved to Gosport and I am surrounded by “Red” restricted areas when I log into Altitude Angel, hence my confidence to fly around here. However, I will persevere and get out a little more often.

Welcome once again!

Hi Bill, and welcome to GADC.
I’d recommend having a look at Drone Scene (you can find it by clicking on the 3 lines at the top right of the screen), as this has a lot more useful info about restriction, but as @SparkyFPV has said, it will also show places that others have found to be good places to fly.
I live within a “red area”, but have found that Coventry Airport are very supportive, and have never refused a request to fly in their Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ). I tend to fly early morning as the airport does not ‘open’ until 8:30

Look on Drone Scene, identify whose Red areas they are, and see if you can get permission to fly… they can only say no

Hi Bill @wrel and welcome to GADC :+1: :+1:

Thank you all for the info and advice. Will look at these.

welcome to GADC

Many thanks.

Welcome Bill to GADC

Hi Bill, I’m not too far from you as the drone flies but a bit of a road trip otherwise ( southeast hayling ). Plenty of good sites here.

Drone Scene is your friend for finding good sites to fly. There is a space between the FRZs, a park just north of Explosion! that gives good views of the harbour and HM dockyard.

Thanks.
