Hi.
I’m new here as I just got my first (proper drone. Had a cheap none gps one years ago).
I got the potensic ATOM 2 and im very happy.
Yes its missing obstacle avoidance but i couldn’t afford a drone with fly more and obstacle avoidance so after allot of research this drone seemed to fit my needs. (I know its not a DJI and I’m happy with that as I’m not trying to compare it with one)
Plus with yesterday’s firmware update it also added waypoints.
I got flyer and operator id and also got insurance just cos it nade sense.
Check out this picture/video i did at the weekend for my first proper flight at Blackpool after some testing and getting used to controls)
I know i have allot of learning to do but that’s part of the fun

Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

Hi @Sicampbell82 - welcome to GADC

It’s a great drone, quite a few members have this model.
For just £9 quid a year you’d be mad not to get it ![]()
I just get more and more happy with it as i get more and more comfy with it.
Found a photo i want to take at a local spot spent some time there the other day hovering. Learning setting. Manual lighting ext.
It’s a set or arches for a railway bridge. Waited 20min for a train and when it came i was testing out 360 photo and facing the wrong way. Lol
Good photos are as much look as planning i guess but looking forward to going back again being patiant and getting the shot in my mind.
That’s a cracking photo, especially given the low light levels ![]()
Is that straight off the drone or did you need to edit it much?
Just off the drone.
Ive very happy with the quality of the output. Just need to learn the secrets of drone photos and video. Like slow movements and best hights ext.
It was also lvl 5 with 6 gusts so didnt stay up to long (New flyer just taking it carfull) only had 1 wind warning so lowered a little but saw in flight log it had max level 6
Nice ![]()
Any issues with the Blackpool FRZ over there? Or were you far enough away from it to not be an issue?
There are no issues with the FRZ as the area around Central Pier and extending to North Pier is outside the designated FRZ.
During my initial attempt to launch, I proceeded to the end of Central Pier due to the quiet environment and numerous closed attractions. A polite lady, who identified herself as the pier manager, approached me. We had a pleasant conversation, and she requested that I refrain from launching from the pier, citing concerns about the drone potentially flying into the Ferris wheel.
I assured her that I possessed all necessary identification and insurance should anything go wrong but that I would instead launch from the beach area. She extended her best wishes for my flight. This interaction was positive and mutually respectful.
For the launch, I used the highest point i could safly find to get the maximum altitude, acknowledging that the tower’s 158-meter height would prevent me from reaching its apex, and launching from sea level would further reduce my effective altitude by approximately 10-15 feet.
Subsequently, I proceeded along the promenade from Central Pier to North Pier, updating my home location as I progressed. I observed another drone in the airspace, and we maintained appropriate separation.
Overall, this was a very positive experience.
Welcome to grey arrows I have the atom 2 with new controller aswell it’s a nice drone membership is definitely worth every penny and the competitions are good even if you don’t win it’s worth ago because you never know and merry Christmas
Thanks
I got it with the phone screen.
Pushed budget to get the flymore kit.
I got the galexy s23 ultra.
Fingers crossed so far not had an issue with brightness.
Yes it’s basically the same controller we have just been asking them for a screen remote for ages just for the convenience really
I saw it on some reviews.
Saw some mixed reviews some saying slightly better some saying same. So for the convenience and maybe brighter screen i saved the cash.
Was happy to see waypoints in last update. Seems allot of stuff for the money.
Would of been nice to have avoidance but the the extta cost i couldnt justify it especialy full all round cover. Ill just have to be carefull.
I get the little signal blip i seen in reviews but not often. Goes from full signal to 2 bar and warning. Even when quite close then back to full bats again never lasted more than a second or too.
I would recomend it.
I also liked flying it at night as seemed even more visible with lights on that i found it in the daytime
Glad your enjoying it it’s a great hobby very addictive and the sky is literally the limit you can spend on them just stick to the rules insurance on here is really good including in membership and people are really helpful
Ok, but you could have just replied without using AI ![]()
What’s the battery life like on the S23 in broad daylight? Any noticeable drain or all ok so far?
I waffled so used AI to make it esier to read lol.
Not noticed a big battery drain but only had a few flights and as it charges from the remote if there is any might take a while to notice.

Hi @Sicampbell82 and welcome to the GADC site
Thanks all
Seems like a good group.
Seen some other groups and experiences some less welcoming (not to me personally) comments making me think twice about paying on other groups and I’ve not felt that here.
We are/were all newbies once.
