Ferrybridge 1 and Ferrybridge 2 are two of the UK’s most efficient energy from waste facilities. Ferrybridge 2 is the sister facility to Ferrybridge 1, with each facility generating up to 85MW (gross) electricity to the National Grid. They each process 725,000 tonnes (together 1.45 million) of post-recycled waste per annum, enough to meet the needs of up to 370,000 UK homes and businesses.
Miss the cooling towers, they were that beacon for 50 years of me knowing I was 15 minutes away from home, with them and Eggborough gone I have to rely on Drax
Great photo.
Thank you @milkmanchris , I grew up near Tinsel top which is the highest point in Leeds, from there you could see all of the power stations in the distance with the huge cooling towers, always found them fascinating, especially on a morning with a nice clear sunrise.
Skelton grange power station was 1/2 mile away from where I work, cooling towers in the distance were huge, easy to forget what it used to look like as they’ve been gone a lot of years now.
With my wife’s recent tumble resulting in a broken arm I have been unable to get out until this evening and am hopeful it fits the bill.

There’s some really cool pics in here, it just keeps getting better & better, I wouldn’t want to put a bet on this, there all so good but so different, hard too call me thinks ….
A fine set of images for this round and a difficult choice for you, the voters. As always, voting is open to all members of GADC and you can vote for one, some, all or none of the images to be crowned the best.
Voting will end at 22:00 on Monday, February 27 and the official result will be posted shortly afterward.
Ayt least you had plenty of dark hours to illustrate this theme. Nights are getting shorter but climate change seems to be skewing the seasons so it’s anybody’s guess as to the weather over the coming months. Which may make RTF subject selection something to consider carefully for the next few rounds …
For this round we have an outright winner and two images tied for second place. Plus a raft of great pictures, each capable of display on their own to receive praise and plaudits. In equal second place we have @john768 with this fine view of Scarborough Harbour at dusk
Equally popular was this image of McArthurGlen Designer Outlet village at Cannock, again taken as daylight fades into night, the photographer was another regular in these competitions @D0c.Col
The outright winner though was @markas with The Halo, an after dark picture of an 18m-diameter steel artwork, with, as yet, no location details for those who may wish to go and admire it!
Well done to John, Colin and Mark and to everyone who took part - see you tomorrow night for the Calendar Competition and the High-as-a-Kite polls
