Rules, rules, rules

Earlier today I took the opportunity to visit nearby Wimbleball Lake here in Somerset with intention of getting some nice aerial shots. I checked Airmap and Drone assist to see if there were any restrictions…none other than the usual common sense and following the drone code (of course). Upon arrival I checked local guidance and rules for the area and there was no mention of aerial photography or drones. Before launching I checked with a member of staff who seemed unsure but claimed I needed private insurance and express permission to do so!?

I pointed out what I planned but to no avail, the irony is that on their website it has three promotional videos all taken by drone.

Anyone else experiencing this?
