Thanks both!
Still hoping to make it. Just out of interest, neither of your videos work for me - āVideo unavailableā

Yes I sacked them off as option 1 was a no go and 2 seemed to cause upset as it was near water. The location is simple but unexciting.
Alterative⦠Farnham Castle
Couple of members have flown there already:
And looking at the members map, a few members living very close too
Well there you have it. Castle it is
Thatās an English Heritage siteā¦think we will need permission to fly there!?
The air is free. Its on places to fly on here. I can try and call them.
Audit the resuts, It might get you the clicks you desire
Could very well be interested in coming along to this. I literally need to get out more as this year so far Iāve achieved zero flying! It all depends on the weather I guess! Drove to a great location a few weeks ago only for the heavens to open just as I arrived
Will keep an eye on this thread for updates with confirmed location and times etc.
Andy
Who said anything about wanting clicks?
Ok, building your portfolio ;o)
Spoke to Farnham Castle, they are both closed to the public until summer snd have a private event on the 15th, so its not going to work. I thought I would ask them regarding a drone meet in general, and as I suspected, they had absolutely no idea what is / isnāt allowed or required.
I dont remember seeing the rules about heritage sights to date, is there a link to the actual requirements anybody can share?
ask @bmsleight as heās hosted a meet-up
Iāve had a quick look, all I can find is guidance around the toal āpolicyā applied by heritage sights. There is also some incorrect information around drones not being able to fly within 50m of anything in general.
Iām not finding any law (acts snd statutes) relating to these sights. I canāt remember seeing anything in the flyer ID test either.
Thanks. That renforces my findings. i.e⦠if
you ask specifically to use their land, you fall into the trap of being required to tick a load of boxes. Versus simply toal off site and needing only your existing operator ID.
I take off and land in lots of places. Where I find it best to ask for forgiveness rather than seek permission. Some how my spotter is always out of shot of the videos I postā¦
However they are the land-owner. They do state how they will grant permission for take-off and landing.
It is a meet-up rather than one person choosing to fly.
Meet-up can and do have people who are new to flying
Meet-up can and do have people who are risk adverse.
Yes exactly, hence why its unsuitable. I personally have a very low threshold in terms of some of the small print around drone use (as a lot of it is misunderstood anyway) but I agree it needs to be sterile to meet everyones needs.
So reflecting on all this we canā¦
-Stick to the field. Small uneven car parking, no features or amenities
-Move to Pirbright Green down the road, plenty of free tarmac parking, food van and 2 pubs
-Go elsewhere. Ideas include Shackleford, Newlands Corner or Clandon somewhere.
