I was going to take a drive up North but the forecast said heavy rain, I then considered a drive to Dinas Castle but had left it too late in the day so I decided to pay another visit to Hollinshead Hall to catch the autumnal colours.
while out shopping today i liked the look of the waves so launched the Mini 3 pro.
took quite a bit of footage for b roll but liked this as a screen grab.
Having failed to fly last night (Android 14 issue) I tried again this morning, having updated my DJI Fly app, only to find I was in a DJI Geo Zone.
Fortunately a few minutes later I was airborne.
This is why I was GEO locked.

Autumn in the Clyde valley near Bothwell Castle in South Lanarkshire.
Mavic 3 Classic.
This really is an area I should photograph more as it’s only 5 minutes from my house, but what puts me off is that for years now there’s been scaffolding along one wall as restoration work goes on. Plus Historic Scotland put up a horrible metal fence all around it.
So I decided to edit the lot out. Here’s a before and after which only took about 10 mins. I could have taken a bit longer and maybe got it a little bit neater, but looks not bad.
For info: (from wiki)
Bothwell Castle is a large medieval castle, sited on a high, steep bank, above a bend in the River Clyde in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Construction of the castle was begun in the 13th century by the ancestors of Clan Murray, to guard a strategic crossing point of the Clyde. Bothwell played a key role in Scotland’s Wars of Independence, changing hands several times.
The huge cylindrical donjon was built in the 13th century, but before the rest of the castle was completed it was severely damaged in a series of sieges. Rebuilding in the early 15th century enlarged the castle, but it was abandoned by the 18th century. The present ruin is rectangular, with the remains of the donjon to the west, and the later Great Hall to the east. The courtyard is enclosed by long curtain walls, with round towers at the south-east and south-west corners. The castle was described by Scottish archaeologist William Douglas Simpson as one of the “foremost secular structures of the Middle Ages in Scotland”.
@stubbyd Match on then Stuart!
Not at 7am in the morning.
The lights are for the grass.
Went on an almost 7.5km stroll yesterday and found a few moments to dodge the rain and too strong winds to get my M3P up at Latchford Locks…
This is a stones throw from my BIL’s house and despite the number of times we’ve visited it is still the first time the weather has been almost conducive to decent flying…
OOI - anybody know of a simple method (when you’ve forgotten the SD Card reader) to get photos from the M3P to a Macbook M2. I took to using the transfer to phone and then used MacDroid to transfer from phone. Ended up with just the JPGs though.
This I what I do with a Mavic Air 2, Mini 2, and MacBook Pro 2013:
Gimbal cover off, power up drone, connect USB cable to the USB-C port on the side or back of drone, and then use Finder or Photos app to get photos.
Eject the disk on the Mac (or disks in case of the Air 2 which has both SD card and internal storage), power off drone, disconnect.
I get both the .JPGs and .DNGs.
Ahh I didn’t try the Photos app, but couldn’t get it to appear in finder.
Thanks for the reply and I’ll give it a whirl.
Chasing trains across the Fens today, not much luck tracking the trains but some beautiful late afternoon sunshine and Autumnal greenery.
Air2S ND8 filter and a bit of tweaking in Photoshop.
Afternoon walk with @Kirky from Pewsey Downs to Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow, then across to East Kennett and back to Pewsey Downs. In total, 11.6 miles, topped off with a pint and some cheesy chips in the Red Lion in Avebury.
In the afternoon sun on the edge of Otmoor, looking north from Beckley, near Oxford:
Turning around to look south towards Beckley:
And the view from Old Headington, Oxford, towards Beckley (the TV transmitter aerials more or less mark the spot), with bonus rainbows.
