Locomotive No. 6989 is a “Modified Hall” class locomotive, and it’s named “Wightwick Hall.” It was built in 1948 by Swindon Works.
The wheel configuration for the Hall class, including 6989 is 4-6-0. This means it has four leading wheels, six driving wheels, and no trailing wheels. The loco pulls a tender which carries its coal and water.
The Hall class locomotives were versatile mixed-traffic engines, suitable for both passenger and freight duties. Many of them were built, and several have been preserved into the heritage railway era.
