  1. An Illuminated Building - The Reading Room of The British Museum

Bonus point if the building is illuminated all around (360 degrees) and not just at the front -
The Reading Room is the Building in the centre of the glass roof and is lit 360 degrees all around.

Bonus point if the illumination colour matches a capital-increasing inquisitor, once a trans-Atlantic ferry pilot - Do we need to claim this or is it just awarded if the colour happens to be correct?

The Reading Room was originally built as a round building in the centre of the courtyard of the museum so was a seperate building to the main museum. The glass roof was added much later in 1999. Would the reading room lose building status after the glass roof was added or not? There are differing opinions depending on where you look. There is an interesting article about the room / building / space at British Museum Reading Room - Wikipedia and another at Finally, a chance to peek inside British Museum’s famous domed reading room. The second article from Timeout mentions the refurbished space to be a building.

Hoping to claim 2 points for Reading Room 360 lit. If not 2 points then please accept the photo as being of The whole British Museum which is visibly lit at the front in the picture so just 1 point.

  1. A Telehandler - Video only

Bonus point if it’s neither red nor yellow - It’s green

Bonus point if it is in the process of lifting or lowering a load (provide a 10-second minimum video) - He is certainly trying to do something but not really making a very good job of it.

Shot with Miini 3 Pro on 21st August at The Postmark development, Mount Pleasant, London

Hoping to claim 3 points if it’s considered that the telehandler is actually lifting of lowering something, and not just stabbing around randomly.

Barrie,

We will give you one point for your public art, especially as it appears to be signed by the artists. Unfortunately we cannot give points for either a wiki entry or for six or more people looking at it.

We accept your youAirdata submission, we suspect the maximum height of 12.1 feet achieved was because the tunnel slopes upwards. But, please, in future,as the Challenge requests pictures from a drone obviously in flight, submit pictures that do not need Airdata support to show that the drone was in flight.

We still don’t understand why you are claiming three points for the picture of construction planr. We will allow you one for the subject: 10. Construction plant - (dozer, excavator or dump truck) as the most eagle-eyed of us spotted an excavator in the middle distance.

However, even after close scrutiny none of us could see any of the following items:

So we can, again, only award one point.

Paul,

Discussions are pending regarding the Reading Room being a separate building, we will get back to you once all the judges have been sobered up consulted.

You are correct - a cryptic colour will be scored but not revealed until the end of the contest.

Your telehandler is lifting something, albeit inelegantly. You have been awarded three points for this entry

Thank you. I thought the reading room would provoke some discussion. There were easier options for me with definate bonus points but that one definately more interesting.

Well captured, John. 4 points added to your score and one to come - if the truck cab colour is correct

Thats the beauty of having the regular Drax delivery trains 25 wagons long.

“Yes, sweetness, they are legally allowed up to a dizzying four hundred feet!”

I’m such a novice! This hyperlapse is amazing. I am going to have to learn how to do it.

This one was done free (manual) as it was too dark to get an object fix lock.

Any update on this yet, they must been sobered up consulted by now

My entry for today is hopefully acceptable:

3. A Steam Locomotive - x-6-x configuration ( six driving wheels). The track on which it runs must be at least 7 1/4 inch gauge

  • Bonus point for having a separate tender.
  • Bonus point for visible steam/smoke from the steam engine.
  • Bonus point for both steam and diesel engines in the same shot.

The Locomotive is “Lambton Colliery” No. 29 at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, taken at Grosmont 17/8/23.
There is visible steam/smoke
There are 3 diesel engines near the top of the shot, one of which is more obvious.

I realise the wheels of the engine are not visible (in my consternation of getting the right angle to get the diesel engine in,. I stuffed up the angle on the steam engine). I believe it has been okay for “proof” of the engine to be shown, which is below:

So fingers crossed, that’s 3 points.
