Defeated? No. Deterred? Yes.

Maths puzzles I love, but I have always loathed (detested, despised and hated) cryptic puzzles. Go figure :man_shrugging: I guess people are just wired different. I simply do not enjoy cryptic clues.

For me, there are 2 pre-requisites for the Birthday Comp; (a) a lot of planning, and (b) some flying. But with the introduction of cryptic clues, it seems like an additional pre-requisite – which I happen to be crap at :man_facepalming:

Anyone who’s participated in the Birthday Comps before will know, if you are in it to win it – or at least to end in the top 3, you cannot afford to lose any points. And with 6 of points now being cryptic, that is 6 points down before I begin. And the last thing I want to be doing is for asking for help, I just don’t like doing that :+1:

Granted, I am the minority. Of course, I know this. But equally, I am not shy about providing feedback either :man_bowing:

Obviously, I hope everyone else thoroughly enjoys the comp, whether they are participating or simply watching with interest. I shall be one of the latter

And besides, there are lots of other ongoing comps to keep me busy; Calendar Pilots, RTF, F&F, etc.

Good luck pal :+1:

4. A Graveyard

  • Bonus point if there is a mausoleum.
  • Bonus point if there is someone famous (which most people would have heard of, not just a local celebrity) buried in the graveyard (wikilink or photo of the gravestone or similar for proof).

Interesting choice, Ian. Although we aren’t sure that he is generally well kent we can’t argue with a full Wikipedia article and a blue plaque commemorating the man at his once home in Bedford Square.

3 points to you!

Thanks  That is why I also included a link to

I thought hopefully one would be known

Tbh not a single one, had you ?

This is the issue with famous people, especially buried ones as they tend to be from a previous generation.

Therefore to your grandparents they would have been known, I guess.

However Raja Ram Mohan Roy would be known to the Indian community, but again probably the senior members.

Although wasn’t Müller involved in yoghurt and Mary Carpenter was a singer? :joy:

Ahh… so, here’s a little tip to save everybody else the headache I’ve been having this week:

If you’re typing all the subjects in to a spreadsheet to track, try to focus on it (for example, don’t be doing it whilst waiting in CoD lobbies for the next game to start). That way you’ll be less likely to type ‘articulated’ when the word is ‘agricultural’.

Wouldn’t have been so bad, except articulated tractors are an actual (but rare here) thing!

The kicker is that they were out harvesting in a field less than a mile from my house a couple of days ago - three agricultural tractors and a combine. :man_facepalming:

And 4 points awarded

14. A Tower Crane

Aircraft: Happymodel Mobula7 HD Cinewhoop

We are assuming that you took this either today or yesterday, Cropping is allowable (as is getting closer to the subject  )

Of course in the cropped picture the subject and bonuses must be distinguishable. If asked for a picture of a sailing boat with a blue hull the picture below would be rejected!

One point added to your score

today.

It is preferred to state when I took the photo (or have a newspaper in shot  ) ?

When you post the photo or video just add the date taken. We sometimes check exif data if we are unsure about something but not all pictures give up their secrets that easily
