The speed limit - FPV and Racing Quad Style - Discussion

One simple problem with that Karl… DJI :man_facepalming: lol

Need to be a sad muthaF#@/er to want to fake your entry for a forum leaderboard tbh.
EDIT: @Steviegeek And then I read about the windmill competition :joy: . I guess you’re are right, no integrity these days.

I believe it is a feature which has been requested of DJI many times over several years, with no luck to date :frowning:

Just to add a bit more confusion to this thread…

The current 20th place on the leaderboard with 40.6mph is an iFlight Chimera 4 flown by @Howard78 - presumably with an analogue system installed as the OSD is recorded Breaking the speed limit - #1248 by Howard78

I’ve just been out with my Chimera 4 ( though mine has a DJI/Vista system ) and …

Chim flight 2

To avoid clogging up this thread, and the original speed limit one, I’ll start a new thread for my speed run data. I also broke my own record for the DC2 while I was out too

Wow, which variant of the chimera was it? I’m assuming the bigger motors?

Chimera 4 with Xing 1404 3800KV motors running on 4S

I think it will do a bit more with the right props fitted

Potentially. What props do you have?

Mine was the 3000kv version also - more of a cruiser.

Sold it now though

Bump.

As a reminder:

The time is now

The existing Breaking the speed limit - How fast is your drone? Find out on our leaderboard! thread will revert to camera drones only and we’ll create a new leaderboard for FPV quads, wings and everything else that isn’t a flying camera ship.

There are two issues to solve, 1) How you want them grouped / listed on the leaderboard and 2) how you’ll verify the entries. We’ll cover # 2 later on, let’s solve #1 first.

How would @group-fpv like to handle the entries?

A summary and some key points from further up in this thread as a memory jogger:

The key points in the suggestions so far seem to be to base the entries on either battery, prop size, or both.

Where would things like the DJI Neo or DJI potato, DJI Avata fit in this scenario?

Are there any other suggestions on how to manage the entries on the leaderboard? Could some FPV operators share some example scenarios of potential entries to see if this combo is viable?

Strictly speaking, you could still apply the same “cell count + prop size” categorization to them, could you not?

Probably / hopefully

Well if you included the Potato for example in the “FPV” drones category as a 5inch 6S, it’ll NEVER be on a leader board, ever. Nazgul and Cedrics blow it out of the water. So I’d keep the DJI off the shelf drones on the OG leaderboard (I’d assume without looking then the potato be top dog there). The avata is 3.5 inch 4S? Again it’d never be listed!

So I’d go size/battery, and forget frames, etc as there are 100s!

So end up with a 5inch 6S, 5inch 4S… How we verify… Hmmm yeah second debate. Decent number of sats etc.

With wings that’d harder in a way. Battery size, prop size, wing size… Maybe have a range 70cm< 70cm>110cm , pack size with those, you get 2,3,4,6S, etc for each? Maybe more of a thing for @Steviegeek ?Nice to see more than one “wing”

That’s kind of why I suggested it. They’re not proper FPVs.

/jk

Yes, probably this.

Fight, fight, fight, fight, hehehe… Well THE the OG potato is (I’m liking it more and more tbh!), it’s just not crashable, unlike the mini spuds

Leave them with the camera boys

I have no affiliation either way, just hoping to get as many in agreement as we can

Think it’s a 3 inch 4S at a google glance?

It probably won’t “win” a leaderboard in that category, but it’ll give a decent baseline? Avata’s aren’t made for racing - let’s see something that is faster stay in the air as long?

Prop size + Cell count does seem like a logical split. Though you might want to define those limits ahead of time. Does a 3.5 inch FPV fit in the 3 inch category or 4? Or are you going to track every single prop size?

I did write it down - seems it would mean 25-ish entries for quads so not that bad (this is including tinywhoops - there would be the challenge to fit gps to those that may limit the list further  )

1.2" (65mm whoop) - 1S 2S
1.5" (75mm whoop) - 1S 2S
1.9" (85mm whoop) - 2S
2" - 2S 3S
2.5" - 3S 4S
3" - 3S 4S
3.5" - 4S 6S
4" - 4S 6S
5" - 4S 6S 8S
6" - 6S 8S
7" - 6S 8S
10" - 6S 8S
13" - 6S 8S 12S

I have very little knowledge of wings but would be good to have logical size in there too

And then the x6 and x8 as I believe I have seen some of those too on the forum

Rather than list each individual frame size, maybe group them into bands e.g.

Up to 2"
2" to 4"
4" to 6"
Over 6"

My suggestion for wings/planes

Wing upto 880mm wingspan, running on upto 4S
Wing above 880mm wingspan, running on 4S
Wing above 880mm wingspan, running on 6S

Plane (having distinct wings, fuselage, tail) upto 1000mm wingspan, running on upto 4S
Plane (having distinct wings, fuselage, tail) above 1000mm wingspan, running on upto 6S

Not sure what’s more confusing. The proposed changes or the current leaderboard.

They’re all drones. Fine as they are imo
