Which video editing software

I think the two main considerations (assuming your hardware is up to it, and I’m guessing both of these will have similar requirements) are

  1. Do you have any previous NLVE experience that would assist the learning curve?
  2. Do you want to pay for it?

Given that Resolve will give you probably everything you need, studio quality, for £0 I would say at least give it a try first. It’s pretty much risk free. If you don’t like/get on with it, go try something else.

I have no experience with Premiere (for the above reason), but I can say that I’ve never failed to find a short tutorial video that has allowed me to do whatever I’ve been struggling with in Resolve.

When I next reinstall windows I may make the switch to davinci. Although I do like all the extra sites with plug ins for the Adobe stuff. Audition is great just for remixing music to the exact length you need in 3 clicks and I also find after effects useful as well once in a while.

I may find my impatience to learn something new will be by undoing.

I’ve just switched from DaVinci to PremPro
Much easier to use as far as colour grading goes and it’s less intensive on the PC :ok_hand:t4:

I use Magix Movie Edit Pro Plus for a quick edit and Vegas Pro suite for a “production” video.

I am using Shotcut. A free opensource software which, for a beginner like me, is very good. Lots of tutorials on Youtube. https://shotcut.org/
I may have to invest in a paid program but will do some homework as to which one I buy.

Moved your post over to a much more recent thread than one that’s 4 years old. :+1:

I have been using Photoshop after watching a video on basic editing on Utube. Quickly got to using colour blending etc. Most of the tools used for photo editing work with video and being able to add background music easily too,

I have been using Hitfilm Express. Its been OK. Nothing mega special about it. Its worked. There are a lot of tutorials online.

I suspect it will struggle with a large project. My PC slowed down a bit with the latest video and the UI doesn’t seem to allow you to group together completed sections of the project and lock them from further editing. We’ll not as far as I can see.

I did have an issue where it struggled with the DVR output of my Ev300o goggles. Flashing black every few seconds both on preview and exported file when the original video file was just fine. I had to drop back a few versions and it worked fine again.

I have bought the lowest level of the software. But will consider other cheap software

I used this for a while and found it struggled immensely with larger files. Admittedly that was back when I was still using my 5yo laptop (although it was decently specced at the time of purchase).

If your machine has the grunt, Davinci Resolve is well worth a look, and I still haven’t tried to do anything with it that the free version isn’t capable of.

My main PC has a great Gfx Card, good amount of memory, but a rather old i5 CPU…

This is a good Free open source video editor. I used it until I decided to pay Adobe £9 a month for Photoshop etc…

I use Davinci Resolve 17, it has everything i need, i find it easy to negotiate and more than enough features for a non subsciption editor, use Photo Mechanic to organise workflow

Hi all,
I’m a recent convert to drone videoing and photography. I’d like to know what video and photo editing software might be good to get hold of. Any thoughts/advice?
Many Thanks

Moved your post to the appropriate thread. Lots of reading for you above. :+1:

Depends what you want to do. Filmora x (pretty cheap) is decent and easy to use interface wise, comes with lots of transitions, a few soundtracks and lots of effects. Easy to pick up. Premiere pro is more deep, you have more control over transitions and effects, but large learning curve, same for After Effects(both subscription) . I’ve just recently started learning Davinci Resolve, only for the fact that, even though my rig is capable, Premiere pro won’t fully use the GPU for rendering. Didn’t like Davinci at first, its less intuitive, but I’ve just got the gist of it, plus it rockets along on rendering.
All said and done, there are lots of profs out there, it all depends on budget, usage and pc power.

Has anyone else had a problem downloading Davinci Resolve recently? Tried downloading it this morning but the Country drop down menu won’t work and so you’ve got to leave it blank. Then when you click the Register & Download button, it just sends you back to Blackmagic’s homepage. I’ve tried emailing Blackmagic, but they haven’t got back to me.

Anyone else found this?

I can get to the point where one clicks download.
Changed country to UK, selected free version, selected windows, entered my info, but didn’t click the actual download button … since I’m on my phone.

UK selected …
