DJI updates its GEO Zone system and removes Unlock requests and NFZs from its Fly Safe platform

And now there’s possibly conflicts with other aircraft. Great move from DJI ( not):wink:

i guess there now sick of the CAA getting in the way so there reducing how much involment on geofencing haha and leaving that to the CAA instead so hopefully a good tthing to come!

Dunno about that ? If they leave everything to the CAA, DJI won’t be selling drones in the U.K. in a few years :joy::joy::joy: ( there again it is a smaller market for their products )

Like all vehicle manufacturers leave the policing of the roads to others.

It was always crazy letting some company dictate where you could use your own gear, one thing this does end for certain is the lease agreement we all have with DJI (unless you modded)

Exactly. And TBH, can you blame DJI? Ultimately they had tried to keep things safer (like having the altitude limits around 6-8 Kms from airports, despite no legal basis for this), then the CAA stood up and said their data was untrustworthy (which it was ultimately), so unsurprisingly, DJI said “FY then; do it yourself”…

Be careful what we wish for eh?

Now then CAA… about that CE vs FCC restriction that DJI put on all their drones… :innocent:

I suspect DJI asked for cash to maintain the database and the CAA and others said do one

If you look at Europe and other countries some are still active others not :man_shrugging:

All EU countries under EASA will follow suit eventually, when their respective aviation authorities have their data ready for upload. This was an EU directive.

Strange that none have the data ready (Zero) yet some are still online and others have pulled the plug!

Not following … UK, France, Belgium, Germany were all on the list of countries pulled and all have the basic orange mandatory FRZs showing…

Wow, thanks for confirming @PingSpike that’s a really helpful / useful update!

I’m right in the middle of them 3 joined circles so yes it’s a pain in the @rse for me! My car has done far more mileage than in several years since buying my drone!

Which is useless and informs you of nothing

But why are they not ready with the data, why pull the plug and not have it ready

It’s available just look on Drone Scene, the sceptical in me feels like they want an incursion

@DeanoG60 You just get a pop up with a tickbox and accept button, once ticked and clicked the drone will work.

yeah, thats what I was guessing would be the case :+1:t2: No longer need an unlock. Thanks for the clarification :+1:t2:

Mine have oddly all returned!? :flushed: :person_shrugging:

Yes, so have mine :scream:

Can’t say I’m surprised to hear this move by DJI, to have such a system in the first place was always going to be contentious, in my opinion. As for all drones being sold with a list of things that the user should and shouldn’t do, again, contentious imo. All it should need is a simple one-liner directing the user to the CAA regulations, nothing more.

In fact now it seems even worse than it was before because now apparently my house is in an altitude restriction zone ok so its 500m so still doesn’t change anything but I never used to be in an altitude zone! :grimacing:
